We have listed below the injections offered by Extended Scope practitioner Mr Daniel Boyd who is one of few physiotherapists in the country to offer ultrasound guided injections for targeted relief and is also able to prescribe medications for injections or prescriptions to supplement your treatment and management. Mr Boyd has completed over a thousand guided injections working across the NHS, Private practice and Elite sport institutions
Steroid injections
Corticosteroids are artificial versions of hormones naturally produced by your body. When corticosteroids are injected into a joint or muscle they help to reduce inflammation in that part of the body, which can then reduce any pain and stiffness. At ClinicAll your injection is guided using real time ultrasound imaging for the certainty that your injection hits the spot.
When we give you the steroid injection we will often use a local anaesthetic called Lidocaine or Bupivacaine . This will provide immediate pain relief that lasts a few hours but will also allow the procedure to be as painless as possible.
The steroids we use are hydrocortisone, cortisone, triamcinolone and methylprednisolone. A common injection called Depo-Medrone contains the active ingredient of methylprednisolone. This is one of the most common steroid we use alongside Kenalog. For any further questions please Contact us to discuss.
Benefits of steroid injections
Corticosteroid injections are tolerated well by the body and do not cause the typical side-effects seen by taking oral steroids, or anabolic steroids. Injections are more effective and targeted at treating isolated joint pain also.
We use steroid injections to manage a range of conditions from Osteoarthritis in joints, tendon pathology and pain, frozen shoulder, trigger finger and more. We also offer advanced procedures to manage complex conditions such as removal of calcification within tendons and hydrodiliatation.
Side effects of steroids
The side effects of steroid injections often differ depending on the area of the body they are treating. Side effects of injections to the joints (an intra-articular injection), muscles (an intramuscular injection) or Tendon Sheath injections.
- Discomfort for one-two days in the injected area
- Bruising or collection of blood under the skin
- A flushed complexion
- An infection, causing redness swelling and pain
- Paler skin at the injected area
- Loss of fat at the injected area
- A rise in blood sugar (more likely for diabetes sufferers)
- Risk of tendon rupture (in the days following an injection). (Specific to tendon injections)
We provide a full list of precautions and contraindications following an injection and an information sheet on best management to ensure your injection is a success.

Can I have steroid injections?
Most people can have steroid injections. At ClinicAll we provide a full consultation and ultrasound scan of the area prior to the injection to ensure we provide the best possible care. Please bear in mind that we do not always agree to do a steroid injection, we use a process of shared decision making to ensure that the correct decision is made for you providing transparent and evidence based information and statistics.
Unfortunately, we cannot provide a steroid injection if…
- You have had a steroid injection in the last few weeks. You usually need to wait 6 to 12 weeks between injections.
- You have had an allergic reaction to local anaesthetic in the past.
- You have a current infection or soon to have any vaccinations.
- You pregnant, breast feeding or trying to fall pregnant
Hyaluronic acid injections
Hyaluronic acid (HLA) injections are safe and relatively new method of managing joint pain improving joint health and function.
HLA has been shown to reduce pain and improve function in joints like the knee or hip with long lasting efficacy ranging from 6-12 months. HLA is often recommended to patients as a safe and effective way of managing osteoarthritis but at this moment in time is not available within the NHS.
HLA is a healthy and sustainable way for active and sporting patients to manage the effects of wear and tear in their joints which allows them to continue to exercise. The treatment has been around for nearly 20 years. The cost of HLA has now reduced and now is becoming increasingly popular in mainstream use as a safer and long lasting alternative to steroid. HLA is nourishing and healthy for the joint so there are no limitations of the amount of HLA injections you can have. HLA is a naturally occurring substance and therefore is an extremely safe form of treatment.
Studies confirm hyaluronic acid injections
reduce pain
improve joint health
improve shock absorption of joints
improve nutrition to joint surfaces
At CllinicAll every injection is performed under ultrasound guidance to ensure accurate placement and minimise discomfort from the procedure.

Arthrosamid injection
Arthrosamid is a new type of injection treatment specifically targeted at the non-surgical, long term management of osteoarthritis (OA). Currently this is only available for knee joint OA proven to reduce pain, cushion the joint and decrease stiffness to improve knee function.
Arthrosamid works by integrating the knee joint lining (synovium) to improve lubrication and health of the joint. The substance itself is a non-biodegradable hydrogel injection that is 97.5% water combined with cross linked polyacrylamide backbone that attaches to the synovium and provides ongoing relief to the knee joint. The big advantage is longevity of relief, as this is a new intervention studies initially show this to be effective beyond 5 years and the manufactures can suggest the results can be permanent.
This is an expensive procedure and one that requires some medication prior to carrying out the procedure – so please contact us for discussion prior to booking.
